American, 20th century, comprising 12 dinner plates, 10-7/8 in.; 12 salad plates, 8-3/4 in.; one platter, 17-1/8 in.; one lidded tureen with mask form handles, 8-3/4 x 13-1/2 in.; paint, gilt, and image transfer decorated in bright colors depicting a phoenix perched on leaves of the nicotiana plant, all marked "Metropolitan Museum of Art", "Mottahedeh" and "VA / 1824/ Portugal" surmounted by a gilt crown on basesNote: Mottahedeh's Tobacco Leaf design is based upon the 18th century pattern originally made in China. An original belongs to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
overall good condition, one dinner plate with small chip and repair to rim, some minor paint and gilt loss, some pinholes, wear to bases, other minor surface scratches and abrasions consistent with age and use
Condition
Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser’s risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
Items purchased from our Asheville auction facility not picked up within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item.
