Note: An argument can be made that the "head of 1838" variety in the ten dollar gold series should constitute a separate type from the later coronet Liberty design. Christian Gobrecht, the designer for both, produced a more delicate head sculpt for this earlier type. Draped hair over her ear and pronounced curvature between shoulder and bust are the two most noticeable differences.
